The German Government and German Agency for Technical Co-operation

BMZ/GTZ FOMISS-Headoffice, Federal Ministery for Economic Co-operation and Development (BMZ)

We, the various village heads and all our people here are unite and keep firm to our voices and demand

This is our Final Decision from our recent meeting of all Penan villages and heads of Long Kerong, Long Sait, Long Kepang, Long Benalih, Long Sabai, Ba Pengaran, Long Ajeng, Long Lamai of Upper Baram, State of Sarawak.

  1. So, we the Penan leaders and the communities unanimously reject the FOMISS/GTZ-project which intends to enter our land and forest in Upper Baram river Selungo, Selaan, Tutoh Akah Balong region, in the Miri division of Sarawak.

  2. We appeal to the german government and GTZ head office to withdraw the FOMISS-GTZ project from all concern Penan areas as mentioned above.

  3. We, the Penan strongly reject any project that has something to do with Samling Timber and any other Company.

  4. Because GTZ, FOMISS project in Sarawak are not follow our rules and conditions it contradict to our native cultural and lifestyle. Now the officer and co-ordinater of the FOMISS project on June 1, 2000 bring people from outside our area and to negitiate with Keniah, Kayan community and ask them to accepted the project to be continue in our area.

  5. We don't want to accepted GTZ-FOMISS project, the reason because the project joint venture with Samling Timber which always corrupted. Now Samling Timber have paid few thousand malaysian Ringgit to few people from Long Kerong Long/Sepigen. Those people are not permanently staying in the village nor the area. They just claim the area without authorised from us the head man. Who ever claims and received any money by sold the name of our village and areas without our authorisation is something happen in future those people take responsibility for il.

  6. To remind GTZ head office and german government once again, if you ever received any reports and statement saying that we Penan accepted GTZ-FOMISS project, that is a lie.

All the affected Penan communities strongly to our principle that land is our breath and life.

We don't want to accepted any development that do not bring any benefit for our people.

Penan villages and heads of Long Kerong, Long Sait, Long Kepang, Long Benalih, Long Sabai, Ba Pengaran, Long Ajeng, Long Lamai of Upper Baram, State of Sarawak
