The Bruno Manser Fund (BMF), Association for the people of the rainforest, has for main activity the support of the Penan tribe in Sarawak, East Malaysia, Borneo, and other indigenous peoples to protect the remaining virgin forest within their traditional homeland in respect of the human rights. One means is the education of the consumers related to the timber trade.

On May 12th, 2001, the High Court in Sarawak, a Malaysian state on the island of Borneo, issued an extraordinary ruling that could have sweeping consequences for indigenous land rights.

After two years of litigation, the court upheld the customary rights of the Iban village Rumah Nor, finding the Borneo Paper and Pulp company did not have the right to destroy Rumah Nor's rainforest.

Where is Bruno Manser? Results of the search-expedition into the heart of last nomadic Penan's refuge area. Basel, January 31st, 2001

A search team organised by the Bruno-Manser-Fonds (BMF) investigated whether Bruno fell when climbing the mountain Batu Lawi. Mountain guide Dario Schwoerer lead a helicopter search around Batu Lawi at the same time as a ground team searched on Batu Lawi on foot and followed Bruno's traces and talked to witnesses and close Penan friends.
