Tong Tana: Land rights in the rainforest

The area around the Mulu National Park could soon be completely protected from deforestation.

At the beginning of 2019, the BMF supported the Penan and Berawan in the Mulu area in their struggle against the removal of 4400 hectares of rainforest. The protest was successful and the bulldozers had to leave again. In addition, the indigenous communities filed a lawsuit against the illegal logging.

Two years later, the time has come for the trial to begin. We are confident that the affected forest will be placed under permanent protection.
