IKEA denies purchase of illegal timber from Ukraine

Investigation commissioned by IKEA found no evidence of illegal wood in its supply chain

In a media release IKEA denies allegations that illegally logged timber entered the IKEA supply chain via Ukraine and Romania. The furniture company refers to current results of an internal and external investigation. The external investigation was conducted by the Ukrainian company Legallis LLC, which audits forestry operations and their compliance with FSC guidelines. According to IKEA, both investigations concluded that only legally felled timber is used in the IKEA supply chain.

The investigations were commissioned by IKEA after the British NGO Earthsight published a report on illegal wood in IKEA chairs in spring 2020. The Bruno Manser Fonds demands that IKEA makes the reports public so that they can be verified. So far, no further information on the investigations is publicly available.
