Continuing resistance against the Swiss coal mine in the rainforest

The destruction of the rainforest on Borneo in favour of the coal mine continues. Indigenous people are calling out the destruction of their land with symbolic acts of protest.

Last week, Erna, an indigenous Punan from the coal mine-affected village of Tumbang Olong, discovered that further areas of her land had been dug up. As a sign of protest she stuck a wooden cross in the ground and planted a banana tree. The deforestation and destruction of her land had been done without her permission. Erna has decided to set up a blockade and file a police report.
